Top Brewery Honors at 2013 GABF
October 22nd, 2013
Firestone Walker Brewing Company has once again received the “Mid-Size Brewing Company and Brewer of the Year” award, for the third time in the brewery’s history. This is an unprecedented achievement, as no other brewery has won this award three times. In addition, the Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA, Pivo Hoppy Pils and Taproom IPA all won gold medals in their respective categories, and the Union Jack IPA took home a silver medal. Firestone Walker Co-Owner, Adam Firestone, credits their success to how “relentless their brewers are when it comes to quality”. Firestone Walker now holds the top honors at the most recent GABF, World Beer Cup and European Beer Star competitions. For the first time, Firestone Walker will be creating custom point of sale acknowledging this award and will be sending it our way in the coming weeks. The SandLot Brewery in Denver, part of Tenth and Blake and a brewer of the Blue Moon portfolio, took home the “Large Brewing Company and Large Brewer of the Year” award. Kegs of Blue Moon are brewed in tiny batches here to the same specifications as they are in the big plant in Golden, CO. Beers produced on The SandLots 10 barrel system have won 43 GABF medals dating to 1995, and the brewery continues to experiment with unique ingredients to develop bolder flavors for the evolving beer drinker. This is the second Large Brewery of the Year award given to the brewers at The SandLot. MillerCoors won a total of eight medals at the 2013 GABF. Congratulations to both breweries for top honors that are well deserved.
